Sacramento, CA - CICC invites members and readers to visit the recently operable Annual Meeting Homepage to view meeting materials, presentations, programs, tributes, photos, and more. The 2007 Annual Meeting included: the induction of a new member, the election of Board Members and Directors, and adoption of amendments to the Bylaws, election of Officers. Congratulations go out to re-elected officers: Don Wood (Dow Chemical) Chairman, Lisa Johnson (Hasa) Vice-Chair/ Secretary, and Curt Miller (Georgia-Pacific) Treasurer. Pursuant to changes in the bylaws approved by the membership, officers' terms are extended to two-years in order to coincide with the legislative cycle.
CICC is pleased to welcome General Chemical West LLC as a new Board Member company and Jim Craig, Director of Operations as a new Director. Additionally, we welcome Mark Panger, Plant Manager of General Chemical's Hollister, CA facility as an Alternate Director. CICC Members must log-in in access annual meeting documents.
Additionally, CICC Members visited with State Legislators in their Capitol offices, heard presentations from the Director of the CA Department of Homeland Security, Matthew Bettenhausen, and toured the Sacramento Regional Terrorist Threat Assessment Center (RTTAC) with Lt Brian Banning of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department. Lt. Banning also provided a very insightful briefing which is also posted on the CICC webpage. The briefing is password protected and CICC Members must log-in to access.
CICC also took the occasion to celebrate its 30th Anniversary and to honor its earliest Pioneers and founding members at an evening reception and dinner at the California Museum. Assemblyman Bill Maze presented a Members' Resolution on behalf himself and Assemblymembers Juan Arambula, Jean Fuller, Cathleen Galgiani, Senators Roy Ashburn and George Runner of honoring CICC for its many public policy contributions during its 30 years representing the California chemical industry. Receiving the Resolution on behalf of CICC was John Hooper, former Vice-President for Stauffer Chemical's western operations. Present with John were former CICC Executive Directors, Executive Assistants, Legislative and Regulatory Advocates.
Maureen Gorsen, Director of the CA Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) was also present to address an audience of 80 plus regarding the newly announced Green Chemistry Initiative and to recognize the outstanding pollution prevention accomplishments of CICC Members: Searles Valley Minerals (Trona, CA), Dow Chemical (Pittsburg, CA), and Ampac Fine Chemicals (Rancho Cordova, CA). DTSC and CICC have been working in partnership more than a year on the voluntary Chemical Industry Pollution Prevention Challenge Program. The recognition plaques were the first to be awarded in conjunction with the program. Accepting the awards respectively on behalf of the companies were Arzell Hale, Executive Director, Searles Valley Minerals; Sandy Galganski, Regulatory Affairs Leader, Dow Chemical; and Aslam Malik, Ph.D., President, Ampac Fine Chemicals who spoke of Ampac's commitment to innovation and pollution prevention in pursuit of the "triple bottom line."
